The Infestation

(Wartime)

Oh, did my mother ever grouse
when I had many a louse
crawling all over my head,
you could even find them in my bed.
I did not get them from a friend,
no, the Russians brought them at war’s end.
The County nurse had to come and douse
all our heads to kill that pest louse,
that did all of us infest,
making us hate that ugly pest.
I ended up braiding my hair in one braid
because of the jokes I was afraid,
of having them seen travel my part up and down,
those little beasts ugly and brown.
When that time was over I was so happy,
no longer having to feel so crappy.
Having lice
is not nice
