Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow
After a sweet time together,
it’s the parting I must weather.
I stand at the fence
as they drive hence.
Out of the windows they wave,
while for more togetherness I crave.
When their car the corner has turned,
I realize anew how much I have yearned,
together talking at leisure,
feeling each moment’s special pleasure
in sharing the times of our life,
even in the middle of this strife.
These moments are such a healing dose,
giving us a chance to hold our hearts close,
this love and caring bridging the distance
imposed on us at circumstance’s insistence.
All of this we must, and will weather,
if we manage to hold it together.
it’s the parting I must weather.
I stand at the fence
as they drive hence.
Out of the windows they wave,
while for more togetherness I crave.
When their car the corner has turned,
I realize anew how much I have yearned,
together talking at leisure,
feeling each moment’s special pleasure
in sharing the times of our life,
even in the middle of this strife.
These moments are such a healing dose,
giving us a chance to hold our hearts close,
this love and caring bridging the distance
imposed on us at circumstance’s insistence.
All of this we must, and will weather,
if we manage to hold it together.
