A Bionic Test
Yesterday they tested
The little machine again
That runs my heart.
It’s to keep you safe, they said
And then turned it off
Just for a moment.
I called out in panic
My consciousness fading,
said the Poet,
Sweat on her brow.
It’s frightening
to be so beholden
To the manipulations of others.
She gave me a strong dry branch
To wind myself around
Upwards to the sun,
Said the Ivy.
Last year I killed a small tree
With my tight embrace
I so wish I could chase
The lizards and birds outside
Sighed the White Cat.
She said it’s safer inside
Away from the coyotes
and speeding cars.
A small price to pay
